Connecticut Orthopaedic Society Bestows Highest Honor to Orthopaedic Surgeon, John Banta, M.D.
Hartford, CT – John Banta, M.D., received the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society’s highest honor, Orthopedist of the Year, at a luncheon presentation held during the Society’s Annual Meeting on May 29, 2009, at the Farmington Marriott in Farmington, Connecticut. He was nominated by his peers for the Society’s prestigious honor and his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Brian Smith, President of the Society presented him with the award.
Dr. Banta was honored for his many achievements, leadership and commitment to pediatric orthopaedics and the development of orthopaedic surgeons. He was recognized for his significant contributions and his dedication to the practice of pediatric orthopaedic surgery, his commitment to research and as a mentor to orthopaedic surgeons and the practice of medicine.
Dr. Banta is currently on the consulting staff of the Newington Department of Pediatric orthopaedics at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and is a clinical instructor for the Department of orthopaedics’ Outpatient orthopaedic Services at Hartford Hospital. His career dedication to children with spina bifida, scoliosis and cerebral palsy is evident in his teaching assignments and committee participation and leadership in related professional societies and research. His passion to the field and compassion for his patients provided an unparalleled example to the many orthopedists that trained with him.
Dr. Banta received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and served as Lieutenant Medical Corps in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He is the father of three and resides in West Hartford with his wife, Jane.
The Connecticut Orthopaedic Society represents over 200 orthopaedic surgeons in Connecticut and seeks to foster the art and science of orthopaedic medicine among physicians and to inform the public as to the nature of orthopaedic medicine and its positive effect on their lives.
